Sacred Muslim Month of Ramadan Begins

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / The Sacred month of Ramadan has begun on 13 September for the followers of the Prophet Muhammad.

The sacred month of Ramadan is held on the 9th month of the Muslim calendar. Muslims celebrate from 13 September to 12 October. Eating, drinking, smoking, having sexual relations, etc. is prohibited during the day in the month of Ramadan. Only the critically ill, pregnant women, old-age people, etc. are exempt from fasting.

Ramadan is a time for internal cleansing. It is believed that Allah (God) forgives those of any wrongdoing, if they pray, read their prayer books and do charitable deeds.

Fast is one of 5 pillars of Islam, which should be observed by all believers. Ramadan is a month of testing, change and hope for Muslims.

The fast begins with breakfast at 06.05 and fast will break at 20.09.

The prayer on the first day of Ramadan: "My God, make my fast in this month true and answer my prayer. Wake up me from the dream of unconcern and carelessness. Forgive my faults, God of Earth."
