Azerbaijan’s Religious Conception Developed

Zarbaliyeva / The religious conception of Azerbaijan has been developed, the chair of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Hidayat Orujev said to journalists on 7 December. According to Orujev, the draft document will be submitted to the Parliament for consideration.

The document defines key essence and direction of the religious policy. According to the Azerbaijani Constitution, religion shall be separated from the State. All religions are equal to the law. Popularization of religious teachings humiliating people's dignity or contradicting with humanism principles shall be prohibited. Each citizen shall have right to freedom of speech and thinking. Nobody shall be made voice his/her thoughts and views or to give up them. Agitation and propaganda causing race, national, religious and social hatred shall be prevented. Each Azerbaijani citizen shall have right to freedom of liberty of conscience and the right to independently define his/her attitude to religion, whether to believe or not to believe, to worship in a group or individually, to express and spread its views and attitude to religion. Implementing of religious ceremonies shall be free if it does not undermine civil order and does not contradict with public moral. Religious views shall not justify breach of law.
