Azerbaijan’s Women Represented in Education, Health, Culture &  Non-Governmental Fields

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 March / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi/ Women in Azerbaijan are mainly represented in the fields of education, health, culture, as well as in the non-governmental sector.

Azerbaijan's Parliament includes 125 MPs, 14 of them are women. The number of women in state bodies exceeds 30%, education - 68.8%, and health - 59%. The statistics were publicized at the international conference Women and State Building on 5 March which was organized by the Social Welfare Party of Azerbaijan.

Women are also involved in the court system, justice bodies, internal structures, and high-ranking military positions.

According to the Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova, women's activities in public and political life reflect the persistence of a democratic and liberal society. The most serious problems women in the world face are poverty, unemployment, lack of education, health and family problems, and the aftermath of war and terrorism.

The international conference involved female officials, political and state figures, from over 20 countries.

Such countries as Finland, Argentina, Germany, Liberia, and Lithuania, where the heads of the country are women, were cited as examples.
