Journalist’s Relation with Missionaries Creates Problems – Azerbaijani Presidential Administration

Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 June / Trend corr I. Alizade/ "Law-enforcement bodies are investigating into the incident of beating of Emin Huseynli, Director of the Institute on Freedom & Security of Reporters," Ali Hasanov, head of the Socio-Political Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Executive Administration. "Neither those who committed the crime nor those who made the statement on this case, can give the details," Hasanov said to journalists on 18 June.

On 14 June, celebration of the 80th anniversary of Che Guevara in Alaturka Cafe in Baku ended in an unpleasant incident. Huseynli said he was beaten up by a police officer. The Interior Minister rejected Huseynli's statement.

Hasanov said Huseynli's activities, who has been the centre of several recent extreme events in Azerbaijan, are very much doubtful.

"If there is a demonstration in front of the Presidential Administration, Emin Huseynli is certainly participating. If there are celebration parties of missionaries, Emin Huseynli is definitely participating. Is he the head of a public organization or a reporter? He has not yet determined his position. And that creates problems for him and the people who work with him," Hasanov said.

According to Hasanov, it is not prohibited in Azerbaijan to meet in cafe's. "But holding celebrations or meetings of some missionary organizations in restaurants or cafes is not a good thing," he said.
