A US tourist was killed and two other people injured in Beijing on Saturday after a Chinese man attacked them and then jumped to his death, the government's official Xinhua news agency reported.
A 47-year-old man attacked two US tourists and a Chinese tour guide on the second floor of Beijing's historic Drum Tower, leading to the death of one of the tourists, the agency quoted city officials as saying.
The agency did not say how or why the man attacked the three people, dpa reported.
It identified the man as Tang Yongming from the eastern city of Hangzhou and said he killed himself after the attack by jumping from the tower.
A spokesman for the US embassy said officials were investigating the report.
"We're aware of the media reports and we're working with the Chinese authorities to verify the veracity of the reports," the spokesman said.
