New TV channel opens in north-western Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Shaki, Dec. 29 / Trend , K.Aliyeva/ A new TV channel opened in the Azerbaijani north-western region of Shaki (352km of Baku) on Dec. 29, Trend regional correspondent reported.

KANAL-S channel will be aired only in Shaki region, whilst it will be aired in north-western regions of the country in the second half of 2009. The channel will be aired within18 hours with five telecasts a day.

A building of KANAL-S was constructed through finance of RTV company. Mostly, regional TV channels will prefer local materials and reflect the current situation, customs and traditions, activities of local institutions, as well as people's social care.

The National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) granted a six-year license to KANAL-S TV in 2007. This channel is aired to neighboring regions in the 53rd frequency. Majority of staff of the new television is local residents.

At present 19 TV channels function in the country. Seven of them are aired in the capital and 12 - in regions. The new television in Shaki is the 20th one.
