A person who issued fatwa on a member of parliament's death during demonstration in Baku was sentenced.
The Narimanov District Court in Baku sentenced Haji Hikmat Valiyev to two-month imprisonment, the court told Trend .
Haji Ali Huseynov, elder person in the Nardaran settlement, used unethical
words towards Sabir Rustamkhanli, chairman of the Civil Solidarity Party, MP,
people's poet and chairman of the World Congress of Azerbaijanis and threatened
him by act of terrorism at a demonstration held in Nardaran settlement of Baku on Jan. 9, 2009.
Detained Haji Hikmat said will pay 50,000 manat for MP Sabir Rustamkhanli's head and he will reward those who kill him.
During the demonstration, the settlement's elders say some Azerbaijani intellectuals betray the people by telling them a lie.
"Unscrupulous intellectuals such as Sabir Rustamkhanli betray people and cast slander on Sahar TV channel [Iran's TV channel] which informs about people's problems. Therefore elders of the Nardaran settlement have issued fatwa on his death. Sabir Rustamkhanli, employ more bodyguards from now on!" the statement by the demonstration said.
Sabunchu police office has filed a case on intimidation to kill and harm somebody's health (Article 134).
The case is being investigated by the Interior Ministry's Central Department for Combating Organized Crime.
Nardaran resident Haji Ali Huseynov was detained as a suspect on Jan. 24.
Narimanov district court issued a decision to imprison him on Jan. 26. He
appealed the Baku Appeal Court against the decision.
