Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 11 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The ideology of the state system in Azerbaijan must leave other achievements behind, Baku State University Rector Abel Maharramov said today, expressing his attitude toward Azerbaijani Presidential Administration academician Ramiz Mehdiyev's article "Social Sciences and Arts: Look to the Context of Time" dedicated to problems in science and education.

"Earlier our science appeared to the world through the USSR. Today it appears independently. Scholars working in fundamental sciences, the arts and social sciences must think that it is impossible to consider issues using Soviet methods," Maharramov said.

The rector said the development of sciences and education in Azerbaijan is conducted in three directions. Reforms should be conducted in these spheres.

"About 1,800 doctors and professors work in Azerbaijan. About 1,200 work in higher schools. Scientific potential should be developed in higher school on this regards," Maharramov said.

The second trend is for Azerbaijani students to receive education in leading higher schools.

"Reforms should be conducted in this regard. Student knowledge should be used effectively. They must establish scientific schools to increase potential in higher schools," the rector said.

Maharramov also stressed the importance of creating material and technical conditions for students. He said it is necessary to use innovations and foreign equipment.
