The NGO Forum has awarded about 50 media representatives in Azerbaijan at the event held on Monday in a Trend Agency's conference hall dedicated to 135-th anniversary of the national press in Azerbaijan.

Awards were given for achievements in the development of the national press and civil society. While speaking at the ceremony senior consultant of the political department of the Presidential Administration Elman Pashayev said that the event is held under a decree signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev June 10.

Pashayev stressed that the development of the national press began with the newspaper Akinchi and the process continues up to this day.

"The press experienced a period of confrontation when newspaper Akinchi appeared. It was pressed. The newspaper ceased publication. But along with this, the press has continued to develop, " Pashayev said.

The press also continued to develop within certain limits during the Soviet period, Pashayev said. But after gaining independence, this development has proceeded more rapidly.

He said that today the state is working with the media.

The NGO Forum awarded TV channels, news agencies, news portals and newspapers operating in the country with diplomas. One of employees of Trend Agency was also awarded.
