On Wednesday, the Azerbaijani Union of Journalists held a presentation of the award named after Hasan bey Zardabi on the occasion of the 135-th anniversary of the National Press.
The union chairman Elchin Shikhli, speaking at the presentation, said that, unfortunately, journalism and profession of a journalist are not respected in Azerbaijan. He said that the youth, choosing journalism, does not perceive it as an honorable profession.
"Our youth has no attraction to journalism. It is time for our journalism to move from quantitative factor to qualitative one," Shikhli said.
Awards, established by the union, were given. The awards were presented in seven categories.
Awards were presented to AzTV member Batura Nabiyeva for the program "I was also a child", a member of the union, photographer Miralekper Agakishiev, employee of the newspaper Uc noqte Punhan Efendiyev for articles on economic issues, employee of the Azerbaijani radio Hikmet Nuriyev for the program, head of the union's Sumgait Branch Rafiq Odayev for a series of articles on the socio-economic life of Sumgait, editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Sharq" Akif Ashirli for the book "History of Azerbaijani Press", chairman of the Association of Journalists "New Generation" Arif Aliyev for his merits in the development of the press in Azerbaijan.
Winners got diplomas.
