Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused Western countries of creating drought in Iran, but from the point of view of science, experts consider it wrong to talk about using special technology to prevent rain in other countries

"There is no scientific confirmation for the claim that a country makes enormous efforts and spends resources on specific technologies to destroy clouds to prevent rain in other countries," said the professor at the University of Tehran, an Iranian expert on environmental issues Esmail Kahrom.

Some European countries using especial equipment have prevented the rain clouds from reaching certain some eastern areas including Iran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said during his speech in the inauguration ceremony of a dam in this central Iran province Thursday morning.

Kahrom said there is a distance of 5,000 or 6,000 kilometers between individual European countries and Iran. "In this case, from a scientific point of view, such activity is impossible, and if possible, I do not know," said Kahrom.

He said Iran is located in the arid and semi-arid zone and is now survives a difficult period of drought. "According to official statistics, last year the rain in Iran fell by 79 percent less than average rainfall in the country over the past 42 years. This shows how water is little in the country," said Kahrom.

According to him, it needs to save water to solve the problem of water lack. "To survive these dry years, it is necessary to use water sparingly, stop wastage by using modern means," said Kahrom.

Iran is located in the arid zone and the country has experienced drought over the last 40 years in various periods.

Drought years of 1992-2002 caused serious damage to agriculture. Then, quotas for drinking water were introduced in several cities in Iran, including Tehran. Since the summer of 2008, a new drought began in Iran. A quota for drinking water was also introduced in several cities and villages during the summer months of this year.

Usually the drought takes place in Iran every five to seven years. It is assumed that began in 2008, the drought will continue for several years.
