A delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held a meeting at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry on Monday, the Turkmen State News Service reported.

A delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held a meeting at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry on Monday, the Turkmen State News Service reported.

The delegation was headed by Deputy Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in Central Asia Francois Blancy.

The sides discussed issues for further cooperation.

"The meeting noted that Turkmenistan, within the framework of legal reform initiated by President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, makes a huge effort to implement the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law into national legislation," the report reads.

The delegation emphasized that the ICRC welcomes and supports the ongoing transformation in Turkmenistan of the socio-economic development and strengthening of democratic and legal state foundations. They reiterated the ICRC's commitment to continuing a constructive partnership in this area.

During the visit, the ICRC delegation will hold a series of meetings in several ministries and departments, as well as the Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan.
