A preparatory hearing over chairman of the Azerbaijani Islamic Party and six of its members on charges of violent seizure of power has been completed.
The Baku Serious Crimes Court under chairmanship of judge Eldar Ismayilov did not consider the petition on summing additional witnesses, lifting police control over headquarters of the Islamic Party located in the Narimanov district, and submitting a list of evidences to the court.
It was decided to hold trial proceedings on the criminal case on Aug.4.
The accused persons - the Islamic Party chairman Movsum Samadov, chairman of the party branch in the Astara region Rufulla Akhundov, the party deputy chairman Vagif Abdullayev, Samadov's cousin Dayanat Ismayilov, party members Firdovsi Mammadrzayev, Faramiz Abbasov and Zulfugar Mikayilov were arrested.
They are charged on Article 28 (Preparation to a crime), 214.2.1 (Terrorism committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, by organized group or criminal community (criminal organization); 214.2.3 committed with application of fire-arms or subjects used as a weapon, 228.3 (Illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives, committed by organized group), 278 (Violent capture power or violent deduction power) of the Criminal Code.
The Nasimi District Court has chosen measure of restraint in the form of arrest for three months towards Movsum Samadov on Jan. 20.
