Iranians raise over $6 million to help quake victims

Some $6.425 million has been raised in Iran so far to help victims of the earthquake, the head of the Red Crescent Society of Iran, Abulhasan Fagih, said, according to the official website of the Iranian television iribnews.

He said that people of various regions of the country sent some $5 million to the declared account number 99 999.

In addition, during Eid-ul-Fitr holidaymakers assisted the victims of the earthquake by raising $1.425 million. Fagih also noted that the population provided humanitarian aid to the amount of 500 tons.

On August 11, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, killing more than 300 people and injuring about 2500.
