Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons has found out that 553 Azerbaijanis were killed or died in captivity. This figure was revealed at a meeting of the State Commission, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of establishment of this structure and outcomes of 2012, the Center for Public Relations of the Ministry of National Security said on Wednesday.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the State Commission Eldar Mahmudov, the Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the leaders of the OSCE in Azerbaijan.

It was noted at the meeting that in the late 80's - early 90's of the last century, events unfolded very quickly resulting in a great confusion in the society. Those who have lost their loved ones did not know who to turn to for help. To resolve this humanitarian issue, the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established in 1993.

From its very first days, the commission started its cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and this partnership continues today.

Since that time the Commission published a lot of books and other materials revealing the truth about Armenian terrorism and atrocities committed by the Armenians.
