Azerbaijan has outstripped the future by its dynamic development for the last 10 years, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Antonius Broek said at a conference on Friday following the national consultations on the Sustainable Development Goals between the Azerbaijani government and the United Nations for the period after 2015.

There are conditions and the strategy for sustainable economic development in Azerbaijan, he said.

"The poverty rate was reduced in Azerbaijan ahead of time," he stressed.

Azerbaijan joined 87 countries that initiated the national dialogues on development after 2020, Broek said.

"Around 237 meetings have been held with more than 2,400 people for the last three months to determine in which world the Azerbaijani people want to live," Broek said. "Their opinions and proposals on the development after 2020 were heard."

The Millennium Development Goals significantly affect the development of our international relations, Broek said. Such important issues as the reduction of poverty, hunger, child mortality rates and attracting children for primary education were raised within the program.

"One can say that most of these goals have been achieved," Broek said. "Regarding providing people with drinking water, around 2 billion people have been already provided with it."
