Custody extended for Azerbaijani journalist

The custody of Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadirov, accused of high treason, has been extended for another five months, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Attorney General's Office, Eldar Sultanov told Trend Nov. 21.
Previously, the timeframe of the measure of restraint, chosen against him, came to an end.
The necessary investigation measures are currently underway in compliance with the protection of Mirkadirov's rights, Sultanov said.
Previously in summer of 2014, an Azerbaijani court decided to extend the restraint measures in the form of arrest in respect to Mirkadirov, by four months.
A criminal case under article 274 (high treason) was launched in respect to Mirkadirov by a decision of the Nasimi district court, and a restraint measure in the form of arrest for three months was chosen in his respect.
At the time of the arrest, Mirkadirov was explained his rights and duties, and he was provided with a lawyer.
An investigative operational team was created in this case.
The team consists of the employees of the Attorney General's Office and the National Security Ministry, and currently the necessary and urgent investigative actions are underway.
