As it was previously reported, a fire erupted May 19 in a multi-story building at Azadlig Avenue, 200/36, in Baku's Binagadi district. On May 20 morning, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev visited the scene of the fire.
During the inspection of the building, the president gave instructions on the site to the members of the State Commission to take urgent actions to investigate the incident's causes, to address its consequences, to provide aid to the affected and the families of those killed in the incident, as well as on other issues.
Then, the first meeting of the state commission, created in connection with the fire, was held under the president's leadership.
President Aliyev once again expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the incident.
A minute of silence was observed in memory of the disaster's victims.
Afterwards, President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the actions taken at the state level to address the consequences of the fire outbreak.
He said a criminal case was launched against those guilty in the incident, adding that they will be strictly punished.
President Aliyev said the preliminary version of the fire is the facing of the building with the poor-quality and non-fire-resistant materials.
Stressing that currently Baku has a lot of buildings coated with similar materials, the president gave instructions to Baku city's executive power and the emergency situations ministry to examine the buildings faced with similar materials, to examine the composition of those materials, and if there is danger, to immediately dismantle the facing from those buildings.
He also gave instructions related to the provision of material support to the families of those killed and injured in the incident, the speedy repair of the building and apartments, which were burnt in the fire, with help of state funds, the equipment of apartments with household items, the issuance of new documents instead of those destroyed in the fire, and taking other actions.
The members of the state commission, in turn, informed about the causes of the incident and the ongoing work.
President Aliyev once again gave concrete instructions on a deep investigation into the incident and take appropriate actions.
