BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25. The Sabail District Court of Baku held a trial on July 24, 2024, to determine a measure of restraint against Igbal Abilov, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, suspected of high treason by carrying out the instructions of Armenia's special services, Trend reports.

According to the information, the suspect, who was living abroad, was detained as a result of special operations conducted by Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS).

"Igbal Abilov is accused of high treason for executing assignments from representatives of Armenian special services operating in a third country. He is alleged to have committed acts aimed at inciting hatred and enmity on ethnic grounds within the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the trial, evidence including secret conversations and transactions conducted by Igbal Abilov via Skype with Garnik Asatryan, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University and Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies in Armenia, was presented. Asatryan is known for his work against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity under the control of Armenia's special services.

Additionally, reasonable suspicions were identified that Abilov, along with foreign special service representatives, organized activities of an organization aimed against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity by recruiting subversive forces from different countries. He also allegedly assisted Vardan Voskanyan and others associated with Armenian special services in conducting hostile activities against Azerbaijan.

Abilov was indicted under Articles 274 (high treason), 281.3 (public incitement against the state on behalf of foreign organizations and their representatives), and 283.1 (actions aimed at inciting national hatred and enmity) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The court ordered the detention of Igbal Abilov for 4 months,” reads the statement.
