London lab confirms bird flu in test samples taken in Salyan and Tartar

Studies made by the World Health Organization (WHO) lab in London have confirmed the H5N1 bird flu virus presence in the test samples taken from Salyan and Tartar villages residents, Azerbaijan Healthcare Ministry told Trend.

5 out of 7 affected by the virus persons have already died. Aleskerov Bakhtiyar, 10 year old Dayikend resident, has been checked out of the hospital, due to his recovery and Askerova Ulker, 15 year old, is now under the treatment in the Baku Clinical Hospital for Children #2

Studies made in the places of the bird flu detection have confirmed that infection caused by the direct contact with wild birds.

Newly arrived WHO experts on infections and epidemiologists are now working together with the Ministry of Healthcare experts.

No new cases of bird flu were detected in Sarvan and Dayikend villages since March 4 and in Beyim-Sarov village since March 7. Prophylactic and anti-epidemic measures are being conducted in the affected areas.
