Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. S. Ilhamgizi/ Shakir Salimov, the Chief of the Department for Russia of the State Committee for Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad, referred to the Domestic office of the Country, saying that for the last two months, about 2,000 Azerbaijani citizens residing in Russia have received an Azerbaijan national passport.
According to Mr. Salimov, employees of the Passport and Registration Department of the Azerbaijan Interior Ministry have been dispatched to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Since January, 2007, these Russian cities have begun offering foreign passports to Azerbaijani citizens residing in Russia.
The representative of the State Committee has said that this process is presently still underway. Those Azerbaijani citizens, who are preparing necessary documents, receive Azerbaijan foreign passports. According to Mr. Salimov, no incidents of deportation of Azerbaijanis from Russia due to the lack of registration have as of yet been reported.
