Time and Venue for WAC Congress Changed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Javad Darahti, the chairman of the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC), reported on 12 May that the time and venue of the 9th congress of the WAC had been changed.

Darahti noted that the congress had been scheduled for 28 May (Independence Day of Azerbaijan) Istanbul, Turkey, but was postponed to 14-15 July due to presidential elections in Turkey.

"Unfortunately, the presidential elections in Turkey had not taken place and a political crisis broke out in the country. The Turkish parliament then decided to hold early parliamentary elections. Thus, the administration of the WAC considered it inexpedient to hold the congress in the country whilst the situation. After long discussions the decision to hold the congress in Keln-Riehl City-Hoset in the city of Cologne on14-15 July," the WAC chairman said.

The WAC was founded in the United States in 1997. The trend of the organization is the fight for independence of South Azerbaijan.
