Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Azerbaijani journalists who were charged with insult to Islamic religion and the Prophet Mohammad filed appeals. The Judge of Sabail District Court, Yusif Kerimov, said that the Editor-in-Chief of Sanat newspaper, Samir Sadagatoglu and journalist Rafig Tagy raised a lawsuit against the sentence of the court. Within the week, the complaint will be forwarded to the Appeal Court of Azerbaijan for consideration.
Arrested in November 2006 and accused in accordance with article 283 (fomenting race, national and religious antagonism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, Samir Sadagatoglu and Rafig Tagy were sentenced to four and three years in prison.
