Azerbaijan, Russia discussing prospects for co-op in field of housing stock renovation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The relevant structures of Azerbaijan and Russia are discussing the possibility of supplying the plastic pipes, heat and electrical insulating materials, elevators, double-glazed windows and other similar products from the Russian Federation to renew the Azerbaijani housing stock, Alexander Artamonov, head of the PR department of the Moscow Center for International Cooperation, told Trend on June 22.

“Moscow with its investments and know-how is involved in a number of spheres of the Azerbaijani economy,” Artamonov added.

"LUKOIL's participation in the Shah Deniz and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum projects, the interaction of Gazprom and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to ensure the gas balance, and joint work to supply energy to Turkey’s Ankara city can be mentioned,” head of the PR department added.

“It is possible to mention the supply of railway equipment from Russia as part of the creation of the North-South international transport corridor, pharmaceutical products, agricultural equipment (for example, Nova-340 combine harvesters) and metallurgical products,” head of the PR department said.

“All these projects are coordinated by the Russian economic center, which brings together a pool of banks headed by VTB,” Artamonov added. “Moreover, the work is underway to concretize the project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Azerbaijan by Russia’s Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation.”

“A fundamental agreement on this issue was reached at the highest level two years ago," Artamonov said.

“After the construction of the section of the railway between Horadiz and Agbend (about 15 kilometers) is completed, the inclusion of a missing part of the corridor in the transport network will be the next logical step,” head of the PR department said.

“But the most interesting thing is that the Armenian railways belong to Russia,” Artamonov said. “This means that it is necessary to negotiate on the Zangezur corridor (Zangilan-Zangezur-Ordubad) with Moscow.”

The head of the PR department stressed that a promising area of technological cooperation between the two countries is also the renewal of the housing stock in Azerbaijan, which is worn out by more than a half.
