BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan has refused a preferential loan from the World Bank (WB) to fight the spread of COVID-19, Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Finance Mais Piriyev told Trend.

According to Piriyev, the Azerbaijani side was not satisfied with the directions, conditions and procedures for allocating a loan.

"We have already notified the WB about the refusal and suspension of the relevant negotiations. At present, the issue of obtaining this loan is not on the agenda," the spokesman said.

As earlier reported, the World Bank planned to approve a $95 million loan for Azerbaijan in the next two to three months to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2020, Azerbaijan allocated nearly 2 billion manat ($1.17 billion), or 2.7 percent of GDP, to fight the coronavirus and support business.
