BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 1
By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) is expanding the measures to increase the number of non-cash payments, the CBA told Trend on Sept. 1.
“The work is currently underway to improve the Digital Educational Card project, which is being implemented jointly with the Ministry of Education as part of the State Program to Expand Non-Cash Payments in the Country,” the CBA said.
"Today, such cards have already been given to more than 100,000 students,” the CBA said. “These cards are for student identity and have payment functions, which has a positive impact on the development of non-cash payments.”
“The target of the Digital Educational Card project is to provide students and teachers in all educational institutions of the country with smart cards," the CBA said.
“Another direction is the creation of the possibility of non-cash payment for travel in public transport through the bank cards,” the CBA said.
"The contactless payment for travel through the bank cards was launched at all stations of the Absheron Ring Railway at the beginning of the first half of 2021,” the CBA said. “The similar projects will be implemented in other types of public transport in Azerbaijan."
“The work that is planned to be implemented this year includes the measures to increase the number of non-cash payments, as well as to conduct a bigger number of campaigns in this sphere,” the CBA said.
