The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) and the Azerbaijan Banks Association have blocked the betting payment method on the websites of gambling and sports sweepstakes by using bank cards issued in Azerbaijan, CBA told Trend on Jan. 19.
The CBA has already sent the appropriate recommendations to the Azerbaijani banks regarding the ban on betting payment at bookmakers and online casinos by using bank cards.
“After making the corresponding changes to the legislation, a meeting was held with the representatives of commercial banks,” the CBA said. “The Azerbaijan Banks Association will continue to take the necessary measures to inform the bank customers about the imposed restrictions by sending SMS and notifications in mobile applications.”
The CBA recommends the bank customers strictly comply with the requirements of Azerbaijani legislation when making online payments.
