BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. Azerbaijan imported more than 621,800 tons of food products from January through April 2022, which is 7.6 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the bulletin of the Azerbaijan State Customs Committee.

According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan's food imports grew over the year in value terms by 10.89 percent, or $69.1 million, to $703.9 million.

Azerbaijan imported over 12,230 tons of meat worth $21.1 million from January through April 2022, 3,840 tons of milk ($5.6 million), 7,249 tons of dairy products ($39.8 million), 178,600 tons of vegetables and fruits ($101.5 million), 5,160 tons of tea (more than $25.6 million).

Azerbaijan also imported over 357,640 tons of wheat, barley, corn and rice worth over $132.2 million.

Imports of vegetable fats and oils amounted to about 57,030 tons in the amount of more than $91.6 million.

Azerbaijan reduced the import of tobacco and tobacco products by 45.7 percent, during this period, compared from January through April 2021, to about $17.8 million.

Imports of pharmaceutical industry products increased in quantitative terms by 23.8 percent, or more than 2,000 tons - up to 10,500 tons compared to the same period in 2021, and in value terms - by 33.9 percent, or $54.1 million - up to more than $213.7 million.
