BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 18. The British Anglo-Asian Mining company has begun underground tunneling in Azerbaijan's "Gilar" deposit (Gedabek), Trend reports referring to the company.

"Gilar" is a mineral occurrence located in the Gedabek contract area, approximately seven kilometers from the company's processing facilities. The area hosts two styles of mineralization, gold in quartz veins and hydrothermal gold copper.

According to the company, preliminary results showed that the deposit contains over 135,000 ounces of gold, 21,500 tons of copper, and 23,000 tons of zinc.

"The underground tunnel will access the lower zone of mineralization and will enable further exploration drilling from depth, followed in due course by production via the tunnel," the company said.

Anglo Asian Mining is a gold, copper and silver producer in southwest Asia with a broad portfolio of production and exploration assets in Azerbaijan.

The main activity of Anglo Asian Mining in Azerbaijan is focused in Gedabek, and this year the "Zafar" deposit is planned to be commissioned in the Gedabek district. In addition, in the coming years, Anglo Asian Mining plans to put into operation such contract zones as "Garadag", "Kharkhar" and "Damirli". On the liberated territories, the company has already started the exploration of the Vezhnali gold deposit in the Zangilan district.

Anglo Asian Mining mainly exports gold bars produced in Azerbaijan to Switzerland, and copper to Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkiye.
