BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 6. In the month of August this year, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC managed to transport circa 651,000 passengers through their inter-district (intercity) and suburban trains, and this impressive number reflects a staggering 24 percent increase compared to the same period last year, Trend reports via Azerbaijani Railways.
Furthermore, it was noted that the Baku-Agstafa-Baku route experienced the greatest growth, skyrocketing by a whopping 41 percent.
“Besides, the number of foreign tourists using AR's passenger transportation services has increased by 38 percent this year compared to last year,” the statement notes.
Officially owned by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC operates the country's rail network. The electrified 1,520 mm gauge network spanning 2,918 km (1,813 mi) is operated at 3 kV (3,000 V) DC. Baku, is home to the Azerbaijan Railways headquarters.
