SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 25. Uzbekistan plans to significantly increase GDP volume in the coming years, the country's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Samarkand today, Trend reports.

“The country’s GDP has doubled and exceeded $100 billion. In the coming years, we'll bring this figure to $160 billion. Our goal is to bring population incomes to the level of upper-middle-income countries,” he also said.

According to the head of state, in recent years, 'New Uzbekistan' has been actively implementing irreversible reforms and radical changes.

"We have focused primarily on liberalizing the economy and improving the living standards and well-being of our people. The main goal of these efforts is to bring our country into the group of nations with above-average income levels. To achieve these goals, we are setting ambitious tasks for ourselves," he added.

The opening ceremony marks the start of the Ninth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors, with speeches from the Board members, the President of Uzbekistan, and the President of AIIB.

The event will run from September 25-26, 2024, featuring over 25 panel discussions. These discussions will cover a wide range of topics, including innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the digital transformation of infrastructure projects.
