ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 5. A branch of the University of Lorraine will open at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Trend reports.
This was announced by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a briefing for the media as part of his visit to France. Following extensive talks, President Tokayev and French President Emmanuel Macron made a joint statement to the press.
"This visit is very important for us. France is a close and reliable partner of Kazakhstan within the European Union. Over the past 34 years, our relations have acquired a strategic nature," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
He emphasized that during substantive talks with President Macron, the need for the development of trade and economic cooperation was highlighted. Tokayev also focused on expanding contacts between leading universities in the fields of science and technology.
"We are currently considering the establishment of a Kazakh-French Lumière University Center. Additionally, Kazakh-French schools will be built in Astana and Almaty. Relevant documents were signed today. These schools will undoubtedly provide young people with the opportunity to receive education to the highest standards. Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen relations with universities and research centers in France," the President noted.
For his part, Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of joint efforts in tackling global challenges such as climate change and the fight against terrorism. According to him, France and Kazakhstan share similar views on key regional and international issues, based on adherence to the UN Charter, respect for the principle of territorial integrity, and the protection of human rights.
At the conclusion of the briefing, the Presidents of Kazakhstan and France adopted a Joint Declaration aimed at strengthening strategic partnership.
