By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Building material manufacturers continue to operate in Georgia as usual following all epidemiological safety standards, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

According to Paata Nikvashvili, director of the Magnum Group cement producing enterprise, the company's main task is to provide infrastructure and construction projects with cement.

“From the beginning of coronavirus outbreak, our work was not be banned, and we were not included in the list of the sectors of the economy required to stop operating by the decision of the government. We got permission to continue working that is very important amid ongoing infrastructure projects. We supply materials without which they can’t be carried out,” he says.

In Nikvashvili’s words, the demand for the cement remains the same as it was before the COVID-19 epidemic.

Unlike the building materials manufacturers, repair companies have stopped working.

According to Decoline company manager Natia Aspanadze, the company has suspended operating due to a significant drop in demand.

“Demand was too low to continue to work. There is no shortage of building materials, but people are refraining from repairs as no one knows when the crisis will end and everyone prefers to postpone repairs until better times,” she explains.

As reported, the Georgian government has published a list of industries that are allowed to work in a state of emergency and quarantine in compliance with the epidemiological safety rules.

Among other sectors, construction companies and building material manufacturers are included in the list. According to the decision made by the government, infrastructure projects will be continued throughout the country.
