Uzbekistan increases cement production

In Uzbekistan cement supplies decreased from $120.3 million in January through August 2019 to $67.6 million in eight months of this year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the head of the department of Uzpromstroymaterialy association Botir Khuzhabekov, as of January 1, 2020, based on the calculation of the aggregate capacities of all enterprises in the country, cement production amounted to 15 million tons.

“In 2019, the production volume amounted to 11 million tons. By the end of the year, it is planned to bring cement production to 20 million tons. Currently, there is an opportunity to produce cement grades 400, 500, and 600,” Khuzhabekov told.

From January through August 2020, the volume of imports of building materials in its total volume amounted to 5.5 percent and reached $715.7 million. In its structure, the main share is occupied by wood and wood products (47.9 percent), cement (9.4 percent), glass and glassware (5.5 percent), as well as asbestos (2.8 percent).

The largest volumes of imports of building materials were recorded for wood and wood products. From January through August 2020, imports for these commodity items amounted to $342.7 million (a decrease of 14.6 percent).

In general, the volume of imports of building materials from January through August 2020 decreased by 18.4 percent compared to 2019.

The decline in imports of building materials is directly related to large-scale reforms in the field of improvement, in particular, housing construction, reconstruction, and improvement of settlements.
