Construction of a passenger terminal at Kerki airport in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan is being completed, Trend reports, citing the Turkmenportal information portal.

Internal finishing works are currently underway in the passenger terminal. In general, the passenger terminal is a three-story building with an area of 2,200 square meters.

To date, most of the work has already been completed in the airport: the construction of the runway has been completed, and signal, ornithological, radio and navigation equipment has been installed.

Parking spaces for aircraft are also being built. The parking lot is designed to accommodate two large planes and four helicopters at the same time.

In total, the airport will cover an area of 210 hectares. At the same time, the adjacent territory of 12,100 square meters is being improved.

The construction began in may 2019 by Turkmen Gündogdy company, which previously built the Turkmenabat International Airport.

According to the contract signed between the Turkmenhovaellary Agency (Turkmen airlines) and the contractor – Gundogdy, the airport will be built along the Turkmenabat–Kerki highway and the city railway station. It is planned that the construction will be completed in April 2021.

The construction of the airfield in Kerki is also closely linked to the development prospects of the region. A transport hub will be formed on the territory of the Lebap region, which will expand the capabilities of domestic civil aviation, both in the field of international and domestic transportation.
