Iran eyes new container terminal in Caspian to link with North-South Corridor

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 13

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) will build a container terminal in the Caspian port of Gilan Province (northern Iran), the Executive Director of the IRISL Group Mohammad Reza Modarres Khiabani said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

He made the remark while getting acquainted with the port.

Modarres Khiabani noted that the construction and launch of this terminal will create opportunities for the development of Iranian container business in the Caspian Sea.

Iran sees the new container terminal to play a key role for the country to benefit from the North-South Corridor.

Khiyabani added that Iran's Anzali Trade - Industrial Freezone Organization and IRISL Group may play a key role in activating the North-South Corridor.

Meanwhile, during the visit to the Caspian port, Head of Iran's Anzali Trade - Industrial Freezone Organization Ali Ovsat Akbari Moghaddam said that the Rasht-Caspian railway line will be launched by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2022). This railway line will play a key role in the development of transit and trade in Iran.

As reported, the length of the Rasht-Caspian railway line in Iran's Gilan Province is 35 kilometers.
