Ernst & Young Starts Second Year of Intermediate Accounting Course at Azerbaijan State Economic University

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Ernst & Young started the second year of its intermediate accounting course at Azerbaijan State Economic University, the Company reports.

Sevar Mammadova, Dean of Special Talent Group (STG), and Turgay Teymurov, Senior Manager of Baku office, made a presentation for the fourth year students of the STG. They noted that the course was developed in 2006 exclusively for the STG and it is the second year of the program. The course will be led by Ernst & Young Audit Seniors Jamil Guliyev and Sohrab Farhadov.

Ernst & Young and Azerbaijan State Economic University signed a memorandum of cooperation on 28 March 2006, which envisions the development of advanced accounting curriculum, education of public in accounting and auditing, and recruitment of students to positions of the audit practice of Ernst & Young.

The American Chamber of Commerce has kindly supported the initiative and has financed the purchase of books for all students and the instructor. The books were donated to the University officials and students at a presentation on 9 October 2006.

The Managing Partner of Ernst & Young in Baku, Ilgar Veliyev, considers this program to be its recognition by the Company of its social responsibility. The office sees this program as a first step on the way to implementing large-scale education programs for the public in the near future.

The need cannot be more emphasized in the time of mandated transition of Azerbaijan to the International Financial Accounting Standards from 2008. The businesses, government and non-profit sector all will need highly qualified accountants, who can carry out the transition successfully. Sharing and spreading knowledge is a belief in the foundation of Ernst & Young.
