Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 January / Trend / In 2007 the import of automobiles by Azerbaijan increased. Last year the country imported 83,300 automobiles, or 228 automobiles a day in average, the State Statistics Committee said.
The country imported 40,900 automobiles in 2003, 43,000 in 2004, 58,300 in 2005, 77,900 in 2006.
The Committee said that over the past five years the number of automobile per 1,000 people increased by 1.5 times, comprising 90 automobiles by the end of the year. Four of every five automobiles were cars, 14.3% - trucks, 3.6% - buses and rest - of special appointment.

Officials of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry said that over the subsequent three years Azerbaijan imported approximately 400,000 automobiles. The considerable amount of new cars will be used in Baku, which will pose additional problems in the transport infrastructure of the city.
To solve the problems the Ministry intends to continue work on improvement of the transport infrastructure of the capital city. In 2008-2011 it is planned to build 11 new automobile bridges, 13 passenger passages and 11 underground parking places in Baku. Moreover, work over the construction of circular automobile highways in Baku (a total of three circular routes will be built). The Ministry plans to build an automobile bridge via the Baku bay, which will connect its ends.
