( dpa ) - Tokyo stocks bounced back Wednesday morning following overnight gains in the US market, sending the key Nikkei index above the 14,000 level.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 191.72 points, or 1.39 per cent, to 14,016.44.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 16.79 points, or 1.25 per cent, to 1,364.26.
On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 107.35-40 yen, down from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 108.05-07 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.4990-95 dollars, up from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 1.4786-88 dollars, and at 160.95-161.00 yen, up from 159.77-81 yen.
