Business Materials 3 March 2008 03:26 (UTC +04:00)

German mobile phone and Internet service provider freenet AG said on Sunday it would separate its DSL broadband business from its Internet portal. ( Reuters )

"The management board and the supervisory board of freenet AG decided in today's supervisory board meeting to split the DSL business and the portal business into two new subsidiaries," the company said in a statement, without giving further details.

TecDax-listed freenet, which last year merged with mobile phone provider mobilcom, wants to focus on mobile Internet services.

Its DSL business has 1.3 million customers and a 7 percent market share in German broadband services, a market in which incumbent supplier Deutsche Telekom is trying to stem a customer exodus.

Freenet is due to report 2007 results on March 3.
