The Uzbek Metallurgical Complex (UMC) Joint-Stock Production Unity (JSPU) which is a giant steel and rolling producer in Uzbekistan divulged key production figures in 2008.
The complex produced 674,300 tons of steel in 2008 compared to 645,300 tons in 2007.Production of rolling amounted to 643,000 tons (619,500 tons in 2007) and ball mills - 147,600 tons (138,100 tons in 2007).
The JSPU's total export made up $230.5 million. Growth rate of production was 104.6 percent. The company produced goods of national use at 12 million sums (roughly $8.5 million). At present the company produces 34description of goods (more than 160 kinds) of national use from high-quality steel rolling. Teapots, pans, buckets, cans, coffeepots and tanks are popular amongst the Uzbek and foreign consumers.
The UMC is located in Bekabad city and is the only ferrous metallurgy enterprise in the Central Asia. To satisfy the country with increasing industrial need and export obligations, the complex intends to up steel production to 695,000 tons by 2011.
The Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Iran are key consumers of the JSPU's goods. It is planned to implement nine investment projects worth almost $50 million as part of upgrading, technical and technological re-equipping production by 2011.
At present the company exports roughly 60 percent of the produced steel and 14 percent of the enameled steel tableware, whose production reaches 150,000 tons each month.
The JSPU upgraded steel-smelting production worth $9.5 million in 2008. Electro steel-smelting furnace at the company was replaced with stove transformer and reconstructing gas cleaning equipments. The Russian Fingo Engineering Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) and Italian Techint SPA delivered and installed equipments.
The project will enable to up efficiency of the stove by 100,000 tons and industrial capacity of steel-smelting production - to 650,000 tons each year. The project is financed by the company's own funds.
