Fixed capital investments in Azerbaijan top 2008 figure by quarter

A total of 1.104 billion manat was invested in development of economic and social spheres in Azerbaijan from all financial sources in February, which is 27.2 percent more than investments in fixed capital in the same period of last year.

Private businesses and organizations invested 222.9 million manat (20.2 percent of all investments) in the fixed capital and state enterprises invested 881.6 million manat (79.8 percent), Azerbaijan Statistics Committee said on March 16.

Investment in construction and repair hit 147.4 million manat. Investments in construction of production facilities hit 241.9 million manat, non-production facilities - 35.5 million manat.

Foreign investment hit 177.4 million manat (16.1 percent). Accordingly, domestic investments added 83.9 percent (927.1 million manat) to the total investments. Their amount increased by 98 percent from February 2008, while foreign investments dropped by 55.7 percent. Most part (92.4 percent) of domestic investments was put in state-owned enterprises and entities and only 7.6 percent was put in private enterprises.

Some 24.6 percent (271.7 million manat) of the investments in the fixed capital was spent for development of country's oil sector, 75.4 percent (832.8 million manat) - for non-oil sector. Investments in non-oil sector grew by 2.2 times compared to the same period last year.

Some 35.6 percent of investments was put in the industrial sector, three percent - agriculture, 0.1 percent - trade and services, 50.2 percent - transport, 0.5 percent - communications, 3.2 percent - housing, 1.8 percent - health, 0.8 percent - education, 1.5 percent - public administration, two percent - other spheres.

A total of 640 million manat of 4.718 billion manat envisaged for 2009 was invested in construction of the budget-financed facilities within two months.

Some 322 million manat (29.2 percent of total investments) was invested in fixed capital through businesses and organizations, bank loans - 37.1 million manat (3.4 percent), the budget - 640.6 million manat (58 percent ), of non-budget funds - 82.9 million manat (7.5 percent), personal funds of population - 21.6 million manat (1.9 percent).

On March 16, the official exchange rate is 0.8045 manat to $1.
