Sowing campaign ends in Kazakhstan

A sowing campaign ended in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture released.

"The total area of the spring sowing was 18.3 million hectares, which is 0.9 million hectares more than last year's level," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Agriculture said the area of cultivation of spring crops was 16.3 million hectares, which is 714,000 hectares more than last year. Of these, spring wheat is placed on an area of almost 13.9 million hectares or 875,200 hectares more than last year.

The areas of those crops were expanded for which there was a shortfall in the domestic market, the ministry said. In particular, the oilseeds are located on an area of 1.066 million hectares, which is 161,000 hectares more than last year.

The area of cultivation of rice has increased by nine thousand hectares, and potatoes - five thousand hectares, sugar beet - by 0.100 hectares, fruit and berry crops - for five thousand hectares and grapes - to 0.800 hectares.

Sown area of vegetable crops has stabilized at the level of last year. The sown areas of forage crops have increased at one-third or 775,000 hectares.
