Dutch company Royal Haskoning will design general plan of construction project of new international sea trade port in Alat settlement on the Caspian coast in October-November 2009, source close to operations in the ministry of transport said on June 11. Earlier Royal Haskoning Company won tender on designing of this big transport unit.
"Presently, operations are held over initial variant of general plan. So, it is expected to be ready in October-November," source said. The company must fully complete designing operations by late 2009.
Azerbaijani ministry of transport plans to launch construction of port in 2010, source said earlier.
Tenders on construction of onshore and offshore parts of a new port will be announced during half of a year, Azerbaijani deputy minister of transport Musa Panahov said.
This port will be multimodal as it is planned to create free economic zone besides logistic center in this territory in future.
New international sea port will be constructed in three stages in Alat settlement and compete by 2015.
The first stage of project over 2008-2010 envisages construction of two bridges for ferry boats, three freight bridges for containers, Ro-Ro ships and simple (universal) dry cargo ships.
The second stage of the project over 2011-2013 and envisages construction of other three freight bridges. The third stage of project over 2014-2015 envisages construction of two additional freight bridges.
Project of port construction is worth over $400 million.
Presently, there are six international trade ports in the Caspian Sea, including Baku (Azerbaijan), Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan), Aktau (Kazakhstan), Astrakhan (Russia), Enzeli and Neka (Iran).
Engineering construction-designing company Royal Haskoning was established in Netherlands in 1881.
