Kazakhstan notes deficit of carriages in railway field

Overall demand in rail cars in Kazakhstan is more than 1,000 units, vice president for the JSC NC KTZH Erik Sultanov said in Astana at a meeting on the development of transport engineering in the rail industry.

Sultanov said the current action plan to implement the memorandum between the JSC NC KTZH and Transmashholding Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) on the project of the "Organization of production of passenger cars at the base of the JSC Almaty carriage repair plant" for 2009-2010.

"So far, the technical documentation has been acquired and production facilities have been arranged to assemble carriages. In 2009, it is plans to assemble 10 carriages, 40 - in 2010 and100 - in 2011. The total need of the industry is 1,000 carriages," the vice-president of JSC said.

Sultanov said the total investment in this project is $60 million, payback period - seven years.

In addition, Kazakhstan will implement two major projects: setting up the production of railroad rails in the former Pavlodar tractor plant (northern Kazakhstan), as well as at the base of "Vostokmashzavoda" - adjusting the production of large parts of 14 kinds of casting rolling, Sultanov added.
