Italy is key foreign trade partner of Azerbaijan: customs committee

In January to August 2009 the foreign trade turnover with 129 countries comprised $1.240 billion, State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan reported.

In total, 7,420 legal entities (3,509) and physical entities (3,912) participated in the foreign trade operations.

Export operations of the country declined by 77.23 percent or $29.12 billion compared to the same period of 2008 and amounted to $8.58 billion. The share of public sector in exports totaled $8.12 billion (94.66 percent), private - $388.1 million (4.52 percent), the share of individuals - $0.70 million (0.82 percent).

Over seven months, imports declined by 15.18 percent or $0.68 billion, reaching $3.82 billion. The share of public sector in import operations amounted to $1.12 billion (24.49 percent), the private sector - $2.51 billion (65.79 percent), individuals - $180.56 million (4.72 percent).

Azerbaijan exported 1,690 types of goods and imported 5,320.
