Iran's customs earned $2.5 billion in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year ended September 21, 2009.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration deputy director for financial and administrative affairs said that during this period 23 million tons of goods were imported and 3 million tons were exported through the customs.

Gholamreza Fatehi told the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network that the value of the exported goods during this period amounted to $11 million.

Fatehi pointed out that since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, five customs offices have been equipped with the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA). By equipping all the operating customs offices with the ASYCUDA, the need for referrals by clients will decrease by 80 percent, he noted.
