State Committee head: Azerbaijan to create national strategy to protect intellectual property

Azerbaijan will create a national strategy to protect intellectual property, Ramiz Hasanov, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents, told media.

"We agreed to establish National Strategy of Azerbaijan in this field jointly with the World Intellectual Property Organization during a meeting with the director general of WIPO in Geneva," Hasanov said.

He said that WIPO specialists are to to visit Azerbaijan on Oct. 21-22.


The autumn session of the Azerbaijani Parliament is expected to consider the draft law on "Intellectual property rights and combating piracy," Kamran Imanov, chairman of the Azerbaijani Copyright Agency, told Trend.

The law on "Intellectual property rights and combating piracy" is intended to regulate the rights of holders of intellectual property and determine the administrative and judicial proceedings relating to the protection of their interests and preventing theft.


The third chapter of the law fully concerns combating piracy. This chapter includes specific regulations related to the digitally encoded works, phonograms and other intellectual property. The law will also prevent the illegal use of information technologies.
