Turkey's electricity consumption increased by 13.2 percent in January over the same month of last year, Sabah reported according to the data of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ).
Electricity consumption in January 2011 amounted to 19.626 billion kWh, while in January 2010 it was 17.343 billion kWh.
Roughly 19.507 billion kWh electricity was produced in Turkey in January 2011, from which 16.18 billion was produced at thermal power plants, 3.15 billion - at hydroelectric power plants, 62.59 million - at geothermal power plants, 275.750 - at wind-driven power plants.
Major part of thermal power - 9.714 billion kWh was produced at natural gas thermal power plants.
In January 2011, roughly 353.646 million kWh of electricity was imported from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran, 191.125 million kWh was exported to foreign countries.
