The Iranian ministry of Energy announced that it will sign tomorrow a contract with the Chinese side to finance the construction of Bakhtiari Dam, Mehr news agency reported.

Bakhtiari Dam in Iran will be the tallest concrete dam in the world, the managing director of Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company stated on March 1.

Mohammadreza Rezazadeh said that a delegation headed by Deputy Energy Minister Mohammadreza Attarzadeh had recently traveled to China and negotiated the finance of Bakhtiari dam and power plant.

Rezazadeh pointed out that the financier Sinohydro Corporation has a historical precedence in the construction of large dams and has cooperated with Iranian companies in the past.

Bakhtiari Dam is to be an arched dam on Bakhtiari River within Zagros Mountains, southwest of Iran.

The Bakhtiari dam will have a reservoir capacity equivalent to 4.8 billion cubic meters.
